Title: The Depths of Bravery
(June, 2023)

Location:  Múlagljúfur Canyon, Iceland

Description:
This self portrait was taken at a place I didn’t even know existed over the previous 9 years and 6 trips I made to this beautiful country, until this year.  My partner Kris and I rented a camper-van for 3 weeks, and in between client shoots we roamed around the country during nocturnal hours under the midnight sun, all in search of magic.  Though, when we found this canyon, some might say it was the opposite of magic as we hiked for an hour in the pouring rain at 4am to reach this spot… but in the end, although sopping wet and freezing cold, the rain is what made this image stand out: it added to the layers of depth throughout the canyon, and the plummeting waterfall and river were fuller than they would have been otherwise, making for a beautiful and dramatic scene straight out of a fairytale!  So I braved the rain, donned the dress, and danced about depths of the canyon to capture this photo… Luckily, I got this image within the first minute of shooting, because after that I ran straight back to my raincoat, and we hiked down as fast as we could to our warm and dry camper-van… where it took 3 days for our clothes to fully dry out after!

Note:  I was not actually in danger during the making of this photo.  The angle of the camera and the crop of the image give the appearance that this cliff edge was much more dramatic than it actually is (there was actually a small plateau right beneath me).  Rest assured, living in the Rocky Mountains I am experienced in mountaineering and I always practice extreme caution in any conditions, around any ledges.
